My top 5 things to see at Hollywood Studios

4 Apr

The last time I went to Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park, I spent the day wearing my poncho because of torrential rain. However, I did not let this stop me from having fun, and believe me there is lots to be had here.

Hollywood Studios offers behind-the-scenes glimpses of Hollywood-style action with live shows, thrilling attractions, backstage tours and special events that only happen in this Disney Park dedicated to entertainment.

1. Fantasmic!

Fantasmic! is a spectacular fireworks and water show which is only performed on selected nights. The 25 minute show stars Mickey Mouse and a bevy of delightful Disney Characters, featuring classic Disney music and songs, laser lights and amazing hydro technic effects.

2. Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show

Light, Motors, Action! is an extreme live stunt show lasting 33 minutes! This thrilling live attraction for big kids, teens and adults reveals the filmmaking secrets behind complex vehicle stunts and electrifying pyrotechnics.

3. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

Rock ‘n’ Roller coaster is a must for all thrill seekers! This high-speed attraction is a roller coaster amplified by the driving beat of a special soundtrack recorded by the rock legends Aerosmith.

4. Toy Story Mania!

I love Toy Story and this ride really captures the fun of the movie and characters. It is an interactive, 4D attraction featuring the loveable cast of characters from the Disney·Pixar Toy Story films. Climb aboard a ride vehicle and play through a gallery of midway-style games designed for a raucous good time.

5. Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular

Some of the most captivating scenes from the first Indiana Jones film are recreated in a scheduled 30-minute live show. Go on a quest to discover the secrets behind the adventurous stunts that made the movie memorable.

Hollywood Studios is dedicated to entertainment, and it sure does entertain. It’s also worth mentioning the Studio Backlot Tour. This is a 35 minute behind-the-scenes guided walk and tram ride which offers insight into how some of the most spectacular special effects in movies are made. It is defo worth taking the time to go on this tour and learn some of the ‘backstage’ techniques.

That’s all from me!

My top 5 things to see at Epcot

1 Apr

I spent a long hot day at Epcot, trawled around in the Orlando heat for hours – but let me tell you, it was well worth it! The theme park itself sprawls across 300 acres and is twice the size of Magic Kingdom!!

Here are my top 5 things to do at Epcot:

1. Illuminations: Reflections of the Earth

This fireworks display is truly spectacular! IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth is a nightly show filled with pyrotechnics, lasers, fire and fountains on World Showcase Lagoon. Accompanied by dazzling lighting effects projected onto the surrounding pavilions, this award-winning show depicts the history of earth and its people.

2. Soarin’

Soarin’ is a serene, multisensory attraction that simulates a hang-gliding flight over California. Experience the feeling of free flight from 40 feet in the air while surrounded by scenic panoramas including the Golden Gate Bridge, Malibu and LA.

3. Test Track

This is a great fun ride which also happens to be one of Disney’s fastest attractions. At 60 miles per hour, Test Track is a high-octane thrill ride in which riders are automotive test subjects braving unpredictable terrain-including an environmental chamber and 50-degree curves!

4. Mission: SPACE

This attraction lets you experience being an astronaut on a realistic space flight to Mars. You will travel over 8,000 miles in just over 5 minutes – dodging meteors as you attend to your aeronautical duties.

5. Turtle Talk with Crush

I absolutely loved Turtle Talk with Crush. It is a unique, live 15-minute show at which kids of all ages are invited to talk and ask questions of the totally tubular turtle from Disney Pixar’s Finding Nemo.

I can’t write a blog about Epcot and not mention some of the amazing pavillions around the park. Epcot literally takes you around the world and you get to experience little tasters. Here are my top three:

Germany Pavillion

This is actually like an old-world village from a storybook with a Bavarian clock tower, a statue of St. George slaying a dragon, the authentic Biergarten Restaurant and quaint shops selling steins and trinkets.

You can also experience Oktoberfest all year long at the Germany Pavilion inside the Biergarten restaurant! The traditionally costumed Oktoberfest Musikanten yodels and plays hearty oompah-pah-style music on folk instruments.

Japan Pavillion

Travel to an ancient, faraway land that is both serene and spirited. A red Torii gate greets you at the waterfront before you explore a pagoda, watch chefs prepare meals, shop and take in the tranquil scenery.

You can also witness Japanese drumming and storytelling as Matsuriza performs the ancient art of Japanese Taiko drumming. Energetic choreography and dramatic percussion combine to create an exciting, unforgettable spectacle.

Mexican Pavillion

You can explore an Aztec pyramid featuring the Animales Fantastico folk art collection, a lively marketplace, the lagoon-side historic restaurant San Angel Inn and a relaxing boat ride on the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros.

The world-famous Mariachi Cobre also performs delightful music of Mexico with spirited traditional singing and instrumental styles.

I hope you enjoyed reading my top 5 things to do at Epcot! Next up I will be blogging my top things to do in Hollywood Studios.

My top 5 things to see at Animal Kingdom

30 Mar

You all know that my fave Disney Park is Animal Kingdom. It is full of attractions, adventures and entertainment that reflect Walt Disney’s dedication to nature and conservation. It is home to more than 1,700 animals from 250 species and sprawling across 500 acres of lush landscape, Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park is the largest animal-themed park in the world!

So here are my top 5 things to do at Animal Kingdom:

1. Kilimanjaro Safaris

This was one of the highlights of my day at Animal Kingdom. I think it helped that our driver was particularly good and made it a great experience for all! You get the opportunity to witness the exotic animals of Africa up as you ride in a rugged open-sided safari vehicle.

2. Expedition Everest

This is a great fun, thrill-seeking ride, which I happily went on over and over again! It is a high-altitude, high-speed roller coaster train with daring drops, hairpin turns and a close encounter with the inhospitable inhabitant of the Forbidden Mountain: the infamous Yeti.

3. Festival of the Lion King

Festival of the Lion King, is a scheduled 30-minute big-as-Broadway musical-stage show based on The Lion King movie. It really is an amazing show full of extremely talented performers.

4. Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade

Disney puts on a great parade and this is yet another example! Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade features popular Disney Characters, elaborate animal puppets, stiltwalkers, drummers, safari vehicles, and nearly 60 Cast Members.

5. Kali River Rapids

I got soaked on this – so make sure you go on a hot day! You ride on a raft down the Chakranadi River through an Asian rainforest. First, ascend 90 feet past picturesque, lush jungle and jasmine-scented mists, then drop into gushing geysers and drift under refreshing waterfalls.

As I said in my last post about Magic Kingdom – there is so many fun things to do at Animal Kingdom it is difficult to choose just 5 things. Below are some of the other things that I loved and you really shouldn’t miss:

This ride takes you back in time – 65 million years to be exact! You are on a mission to capture a mild-mannered dinosaur without getting caught in the jaws of the angry, carnivorous and hungry Carnotaurus. Then you have just 60 seconds to escape!

It’s Tough to be a Bug

This is a great family fun 3D movie where guests put on a pair of Bug-Eye glasses and settle down for a show hosted by the ant Flik from Disney·Pixar’s A Bug’s Life.

Finding Nemo The Musical

Finding Nemo – The Musical, is a scheduled 30-minute musical-theater adaptation of Disney·Pixar’s movie, Finding Nemo, that will amaze audiences of all ages.

That’s all from me – next post will be my top things to do at Epcot!

My top 5 things to see at Magic Kingdom

29 Mar

This week I thought I would highlight my favourite things to do at each of theme parks in Orlando, starting with Disney’s Magic Kingdom. When I first went to Florida I visited Magic Kingdom first. I really do believe that it is the most magical of all the parks and it really took me back to my childhood days! It captures the enchantment of fairytales through exciting entertainment and attractions.

There are so many wonderful things to do at this park that it is difficult to highlight just 5! So, I have based the top 5 things on what I most enjoy when I am there – the true highlights of my holiday!

1. Wishes Nighttime Spectacular

This is absolutely incredible – so much so, that it actually brought a tear to my eye! Wishes Nighttime Spectacular is the biggest, brightest fireworks extravaganza in Magic Kingdom theme park history and is definitely not to be missed!

2. Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It! Street Party

On the first day of my first holiday to Florida, I went to Magic Kingdom. This was my very first ‘Disney experience’ and one I will never forget! It is an interactive celebration held in front of Cinderella Castle with some of your favourite Disney Characters!

3. Buzz Lightyears Space Ranger Spin

This is a great fun ride for all the family! Basically, you climb aboard your very own space cruiser to shoot targets and rack up points. The main aim is to stop the evil Emporer Zurg from stealing the Universe’s cystollic fusion cell supply.

4. Space Mountain

This is, in my opinion, the best ride at Magic Kingdom! You are launched past the flashing lights of your space station into the soaring darkness of space!

5. Mickey’s PhilharMagic

I enjoyed this 3D movie so much I went straight back in to watch it again! This is an innovative 3D movie in which Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck sweep you into the scenes from classic Disney films.

As I have said previously, there are so many great things to do it was difficult to choose. My other favourites which came close to the top 5 were:

Monsters Inc Laugh Floor

This attraction really is a giggle – and I was lucky enough to be part of it once! It is a comedy show hosted on a digital stage by Monster of Ceremonies Mike Wazowski. This interactive spectacle even lets you text message your own jokes as suggestions.

Celebrate a dream come true parade

Let’s face it, Disney sure know how to put on a SUPERB parade, and Celebrate A Dream Come True Parade is a great example. The parade features a collection of classic Disney moments. Music, floats and many favorite Disney Characters make up this joyful procession down Main Street U.S.A.

Main Street Electrical Parade

I have already mentioned a parade I know, but this one really is like no other and really will brighten your night! I was blown away by the beautifully lit floats and it is a definite must see!

The Haunted Mansion

You can’t go to the Magic Kingdom and not experience the Haunted Mansion!! You climb aboard your very own Doom Buggy and take a ride through the ominous haunted house where a supernatural Ghost Host introduces you to his closest 999 dearly departed friends.

So there you have it, that’s my top things to do at Magic Kingdom.

Cheetah cub joins Busch Gardens

17 Mar

Busch Gardens has adopted a 4-week-old cheetah cub. They have been caring for the cub since adopting it from Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, where the newborn’s mother wasn’t able to care for him.

The Species Survival Plan and the Jacksonville Zoo advised that the cheetah be moved to Busch Gardens’ facilities in Tampa. The cub, which now weighs 2 pounds, will eventually be part of Cheetah Run, the upcoming animal exhibit opening in conjunction Cheetah Hunt, a roller coaster set to open this spring.

Busch Gardens supports the conservation of cheetahs via the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund, which has donated almost $100,000 to cheetah efforts in Africa since 2005.
